Theo Walcott says the signing of Mesut Ozil has put everyone at Arsenal on a ‘massive high’.
Ozil joined for a club-record fee of £42.5m from Real Madrid on deadline day, and Walcott is excited by the prospect of lining up alongside the German international.
"It's very exciting. I played against him for England Under-21s, he showed his qualities then and he has showed them since," Walcott said.
"He's a great addition and personally I'm looking forward to playing alongside him."
An opening day defeat to Aston Villa kicked off the season in disappointing fashion for the Gunners, but they bounced back with four consecutive victories in all competitions, including the 1-0 north London derby win over Tottenham Hotspur at the Emirates Stadium last Sunday.
“We had a disappointing start to the season but we've bounced back and it's looking fantastic now," said Walcott. “The likes of Ozil joining the club is only going to boost everyone's confidence and everyone's going to be on a massive high.
“I think it definitely shows a statement that we are ready to step up and Ozil is going to be fantastic for me personally," the 24-year-old, who is currently on England duty, added.
The first sighting that Gunners fans will have of Ozil in a Arsenal shirt will be their away fixture against Sunderland on 14 September, after the international break.
"With the amount of the assists he has got, it's a dream for me to see, so I am very excited to see him in the flesh and play with him. I am sure all the Arsenal fans will be looking forward to the Sunderland game."
