Newcastle vs Man United: David De Gea labels loss ‘unacceptable’ and admits club are in ‘worst’ place

The Spanish goalkeeper claimed ‘he did not know what is happening’ at the club and ‘we cannot even score’

David De Gea admitted Manchester United are in their “worst” and “most difficult” period during his time at the club and labelled the club’s performance against Newcastle “unacceptable”.

Teenager Matty Longstaff scored on his debut as United stumbled to a 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park in another uninspiring performance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United managed just three shots on goal in the match and have now scored just 7 goals in their last 10 games. Asked what needs to improve at the club, De Gea simply responded: “Everything.”

“It is not acceptable, not just this game but the whole season,” De Gea told the BBC. ”It is the most difficult time since I have been here. I don’t know what is happening. We cannot even score one goal in two games.”

“We didn’t create any proper chances,” De Gea then added to Sky Sports. ”We defended well. The team needs to step up. We have some big injuries but that’s no excuse. We are Manchester United, we need to keep training hard, fighting and winning games.”

“[This is] the most difficult time since I’ve been here. I don’t know why, what is happening. Sorry to the fans. We will keep fighting.

“Come on, we conceded a goal from a corner. That cannot happen. It’s unacceptable.”
