Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata has tried his hand at breaking news after he appeared to confirm unwanted midfielder Anderson is heading back to Brazil before the end of the January transfer window.

Anderson has played just twice for the Red Devils under manager Louis van Gaal, having been given 90 minutes in the shock 4-0 Capital One Cup defeat to MK Dons, and 20 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Burnley – both of which came in August.

The Brazilian has since turned out regularly for the Under-21 side, but despite talk of a January exit and the club offering him out to any potential suitors, no one made an offer for the 26-year-old.

However, that appeared to change over the weekend as reports linked him with a move back to his homeland, and Juan Mata appears to have unknowingly confirmed the deal after saying goodbye to Anderson on his personal blog.

Mata said at the end of his most recent post: “Also, I want to wish good luck to my Friend Anderson, who is back to football in his native Brazil. All the best, my friend!”

Anderson is set to join Brazilian top flight side Internacional, and returns to South America having played for Gremio from 2004 until 2006. He went on to join Portuguese side Porto for a season before United made their move for him, signing the midfielder in a combined £30m along with Nani.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with Fiorentina, but made just seven appearances without troubling the net and the Italians elected not to follow up their interest in him.
