Manchester United have not received any transfer bids for midfielder Ander Herrera, despite heavy interest from Barcelona and Valencia.

The Spanish box-to-box midfielder has often found himself sitting on the sidelines at Old Trafford, and has been linked with a move away since Louis van Gaal's arrival at the club.

According to the Mail, the Catalan club see him as a potential replacement for Xavi, who left the Nou Camp in the summer.

Herrera, who is a favourite among the Old Trafford crowd, found that his opportunities were particularly limited at the start of this season.

Manager Louis van Gaal initially seemed to prefer his new pairing of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

However, Herrera has recently forced his way back into contention with good displays against Club Brugge in the Champions League.

He was one of the few United players to emerge from the 2-1 defeat at Swansea City with some credit.

The midfielder, who signed from Athletic Bilbao for £29m in the summer of 2014, recently spoke to club magazine Inside United, and reiterated the need for his side to kick on and claim trophies in their second year under Van Gaal.

"Last season was the first with the new staff and a lot of new players like me but, now, we have no excuses," he said. "We have to fight for everything.

"We are going to try to win every game. When I see the millions of supporters we have, I just think we cannot be fourth in the league, we have to be higher."
