Jurgen Klopp reacts to Liverpool's defeat at Man City and discusses title race

Jurgen Klopp is keeping calm and refusing to fixate on the form of Liverpool’s title rivals, with the Merseyside club continuing to sit pretty at the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool moved seven points clear over the weekend – after beating Brighton 1-0 on the road – but have played one game more than Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who take on Wolves this evening at the Etihad Stadium.

After Liverpool’s defeat by the reigning champions earlier this month, this season’s title race has sparked back into life – with all the focus fixed on the league’s top two clubs.

But despite the rising sense of intrigue and excitement, Klopp has made clear that his only concern lies with Liverpool.

“Our situation is we are completely, completely focused on us,” he said on Saturday. “Nothing that happens around us is important. The City game felt very average, the result because we lost a football match but not because of maybe how people saw it, missing a chance to bring a gap between us and City to I don’t know how many points.

“It’s just stay in the situation and be completely focused and obviously we can win football games. The boys proved that this season already a lot and that is what we have to do until the end of the season. That’s all.”

He added: “We have to play football, we cannot change anything. As long I think in sports as you can be focused on yourself everything is fine. You have no influence over what other teams are doing, you don’t know it. If you play them, prepare them. If you don’t ignore them.”

Liverpool are set to fly out to Dubai at the end of the month for a warm weather training camp, and Klopp has admitted that the trip will be a welcome break for his men.

“For a few players 100 per cent,” he said. “We have injuries at the moment. It will help a lot. I hope Dejan [Lovren] and Joe [Gomez] make big steps. Adam [Lallana] might be a bit early already. We have a few players out and they all need the time. Joel [Matip] now back on the bench, he as well, the time for bone healing, it all helps. It’s good for us.”
