Jesse Lingard: Manchester United winger to be rewarded with new contract

The 22-year-old was recently called up to the England squad for the first time

Jesse Lingard is set to be rewarded for his fine recent form by being offered a new contract at Manchester United, according to reports.

The new deal is set to double Lingard's wages from £25,000 to £50,000, report the Daily Mirror.

Warrington-born Lingard has featured in eight matches for United this season, after breaking into the side following four separate loan spells in the last three seasons.

The 22-year-old scored his first goal for the club in their 2-0 win over West Brom earlier this month.

Lingard was called into the Englad squad for the first time for the 2-0 victory over France, and was an unused substitute at Wembley.

"It feels like [in] a month everything has changed!" Lingard said at the weekend after United's win. "Apparently I was on standby [for England] but I didn’t know. I got the call Saturday night and went down. I’m not going to turn that down. It’s a massive honour to get called up by England and it is just a shame I did not get any minutes.

"It was just being around and seeing how they were doing. It was similar to here. It would have been great to have played but I’ll see them next time.

"Roy Hodgson said I was there on merit having done well for Manchester United and hopefully I can be there."
