Brendan Rodgers is convinced that Liverpool will be able to make a serious assault on the top four next season if they add reinforcements to their squad this summer.

Liverpool stretched their unbeaten run to seven matches yesterday with a 3-1 win at Fulham.

Daniel Sturridge was Liverpool's most deadly player, scoring all three goals while Philippe Coutinho was also outstanding in midfield.

Liverpool are expected to be one of the most active teams in the transfer market this summer, with Loic Remy, and a number of centre-halves thought to be on the club's shortlist.

Should Rodgers succeed in landing his targets he thinks the Reds will have a good chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

"I think we can have an exciting season next year," said Rodgers, who was without Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez yesterday.

"We can build towards that. We need more depth, we need some more (players) in the summer.

"If we can do that we will be looking to make a real sustainable challenge next year for the top four."

While Liverpool's season is ending on a high, the exact opposite can be said for Fulham.

The west London club have now lost their last five games and they lacked creativity yesterday.

Dimitar Berbatov put the Cottagers ahead, but other than a save from Aaron Hughes in the second half, Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina had a quiet afternoon.

Several players, like Sascha Riether, Giorgos Karagounis, and Mark Schwarzer are out of contract in the summer and manager Martin Jol has warned that the club could be in for a tough year if new signings are not made.

"If you lose seven or eight players of course you need five or six (to come in)," he said.

"Hopefully you get players in who could be good and strengthen us. If not you have a problem."

Jol admitted his team were second best, but he felt Fulham should have had a penalty in the second half when Bryan Ruiz's shot struck Lucas' hand in the Liverpool box.

"It should have been a penalty," the Dutchman said.

"(The game) was frustrating.

"Normally if we score we win games. We never seem to win games after being down."
