It was hard for Paul Scholes to say goodbye to Manchester United, so much so that he came out of retirement to return for the club he loves. Having finally hung up his boots and established himself as a leading TV pundit and columnist for The Independent, it appears he remains intent on proving he’s still got it.

At least that’s what Jens Lehmann will be thinking, especially after picking the ball out of the back of the net on Friday night after Scholes had scored an inch-perfect lob over the former Arsenal goalkeeper.

Scholes and Lehmann were taking part in the Global Legends Series alongside he likes of Patrick Kleivert, Andri Shevchenko and Luis Figo – who was captaining his side against Fabio Cannavaro’s team – in the first game of the series which took place in Bangkok.

A quick look at Figo’s side would see fans of the beautiful game revelling in delight with the likes of David Suker and Deco in the side, although it’s also noticeable that it contains just two defenders in Cafu and Javier Zanetti – and both are right-backs.

This explains why they lost 8-5 and allowed Cannavaro’s side to claim the Bangkok title, with Scholes’ moment of inspiration proving to be the pick of the goals.
