Louis van Gaal has deemed Bebe surplus to requirements at Manchester United by leaving him out of his 25-man squad for the US tour.

It is the second big call the manager has made in two days, after deciding changes were needed to the club's training pitches yesterday, which he described as "too windy".

Bebe has struggled to make any impact at United since joining the club from Besiktas for £7.5m in 2010.

The 24-year-old only made two Premier League appearances in a disastrous time at the club, and has been out on loan for the last three seasons.

Anderson was also a notable absentee from the squad, although the club said that it was due to a calf injury sustained in training.

Patrice Evra, who is still on holiday after featuring for France at the World Cup, is another expected to leave after reportedly agreeing terms with Juventus.

"The facility needs a little more intimacy," Van Gaal said.

"I have asked already because now it's an open field but there is always wind.

"And wind is not always the friend of the players. It's not always the friend of the ball and so we have to do something about that. But the facilities are fantastic."

New signings Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and Luke Shaw from Southampton were both included for the trip to America, but England midfielder Michael Carrick misses the trip following ankle surgery that will keep him out for up to three months.

During the tour United play LA Galaxy (23 July), AS Roma (26 July ), Inter Milan (29 July) and Real Madrid (2 August).
