Diego Costa is a doubt for Chelsea's Premier League visit to Everton on Saturday after the club revealed he had suffered a "minor muscular injury" in training this week. He will be monitored over the next few days.

It had been reported that the £32m striker suffered a hamstring injury which would have ruled him out for six weeks, but the club have today played down the injury concern.

Costa has enjoyed a fine start to his Chelsea career after joining from Atletico Madrid this summer, scoring two goals in his two appearances for the club.

The Spain international's form has forced Fernando Torres further down the pecking order. Torres has been linked with a move to AC Milan, with the Italian giants' vice-president Adriano Galliani confirming the club's interest in the player yesterday.

Milan have also revealed their intentions to sign Torres's Chelsea team-mate, the Dutch 21-year-old midfielder Marco van Ginkel.

On whether his side would be making any more transfers before the transfer window closes on Monday, Galliani said:

"We’re entering the final hours, let’s see if we’re able to buy an important striker. This is the main aim. Torres is definitely an important striker, let’s see if we’re able to get him or another player. Van Ginkel? It’s possible, we’ve written to Chelsea and we’re waiting for a response. We’re quite confident."
