Blind footballer scores wonder goal for France

Yvan Wouandji's mazy run was rounded off with an emphatic finish in the international match against Germany

Displaying close control and a sharp shot, Yvan Wouandji's goal for France against Germany has gone viral.

The 21-year-old, who represented France at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, started a mazy run in his own half before beating three defenders and then driving the ball into the back of the net.

Almost as impressive as the goal itself was Wouandji's celebration, with the visually impaired player wheeling away towards the backroom staff before jumping onto the inflatable perimeter to celebrate with them. His goal proved the winner in a 1-0 victory. Watch the goal above.

Blind football sees the ball loaded with ball bearings to make it audible, whilst the goalkeepers are not fully blind. A guide behind the goal directs players when to shoot whilst eye-shades are used to take into account varying degrees of eyesight.
