Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil is reported to have been involved in a collision with a photographer on Friday night. The Germany international is believed to have been questioned by police over the incident in Highgate, north London.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan police spokesman said: “Police were called at approximately 7.18pm on Friday 21 February to reports of an alleged collision between a vehicle and a member of the public in Sheldon Avenue N6.

“The member of the public, a man in his thirties, sustained minor injuries. Officers have spoken to the driver of the vehicle.”

The spokesman also confirmed that inquiries were continuing and that no arrests have been made at this time.

Ozil was dropped from the squad to face Sunderland on Saturday having looking jaded and in need of a rest in recent weeks. The £42.5m club-record signing had his penalty save in last week’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, which was the second time this season that he had failed to convert from the spot.

The Independent contacted the club but they said they do not comment on player’s private life.
