Manchester City cannot be eliminated from the Champions League tonight – after an injury-time equaliser for CSKA Moscow in the other group E game against Roma, which kicked off early.

That 1-1 result means that City could feasibly lose tonight against Bayern and still get through on five points with a win by three goals in their last game away to Roma – as long as the Bayern v CSKA result goes their way too.

Eliaquim Mangala and Bacary Sagna were the surprise picks for Manuel Pellegrini tonight. Martin Demichelis, the former Bayern defender, was expected to start in the centre of defence while Pablo Zabaleta trained as usual yesterday.

Chelsea, meanwhile, will look to secure the status of group-winner in their Champions League campaign against German side Schalke 04.

Though Roberto Di Matteo, the former Chelsea player who led the club to their Champions League victory back in 2012, and was appointed manager of Schalke in October, will look for a win over his old team.
