Belgium emphatically beat San Marino 4-0 to preserve their perfect record after five games in Group I.

Steve Clarke’s side have just two wins from five, against Cyprus and San Marino, and must improve on their previous 3-0 defeat in Belgium if they are to have any chance of qualifying.

Steven Naismith remains out with a hamstring injury, whilst Ryan Jack picked up a knock to the knee in training and is a doubt.

Matt Phillips and Ryan Christie may start after substitute appearances against Russia on Friday.

Belgium have been in great form, and possess a serious offensive threat despite the absence of talisman Eden Hazard.

Scotland are not likely to have much of the ball, with Belgium’s wide centre backs likely to take up high positions and their supreme technicians capable of retaining the ball in the final third with ease.

The Scots should also be wary of the Belgian threat on the counter - the pace of Mertens, Lukaku and Ferreira-Carrasco can be devastating.
