Uruguay striker Luis Suarez is 'evolving well' just one week removed from knee surgery according to the national team's doctor.

The Liverpool forward's fitness is still in doubt for this year's World Cup, but Alberto Pan refused to rule Suarez out of the tournament believing it was too early to say for sure when he would start training again.

"It is very risky to give exact dates." Pan said at the team's facility in Montevideo. "We cannot have absolute certainty or clear numbers but the postoperative period has been very good.

"Today, Luis is not feeling any pain; he's working on his muscles and putting only the essential pressure on his leg."

Uruguay start their tournament against Costa Rica on 14th June, before facing England in Sao Paulo five days later.
