Manchester United have been charged by the Football Association for failing to control their players in the side's FA Cup clash with Chelsea on Monday night.

Jose Mourinho's men appeared to crowd referee Michael Oliver in the 35th minute of the match following his decision to dismiss midfielder Ander Herrera for a second bookable offence.

The visitors went on to succumb to defeat, with N'Golo Kante's second-half strike proving the difference.

The club have until 6pm on Friday to respond though it's unclear whether United will appeal or plead guilty to the charge.

United had initially faced concerns that Marcos Rojo would be disciplined for appearing to stamp on Chelsea's Eden Hazard but the referee's report from Monday's game confirmed that Oliver had seen the incident but decided not to take action at the time.

As a result, no retrospective charge can now be made against the Argentine who avoids what would have been a likely three-match ban for violent conduct.

West Bromwich Albion and Watford were both notably fined £45,000 by the FA earlier this season for failing to control their players.
