Kaka: 'Ronaldo and I are worth every penny'

Kaka has rejected suggestions that Real Madrid have paid over the odds to sign him and fellow superstar Cristiano Ronaldo this summer.

The two players have arrived at the Bernabeu for a combined £130million, with critics suggesting the world record transfer fees are a worrying trend during the current global economic downturn.

However, Brazil star Kaka claims that both he and reigning World and European player of the year Ronaldo are worth every penny of their transfer fees.

He countered: "(The reason) that Real Madrid have decided to pay so much money for us is because we are worth it, isn't it? Because we've shown it with our football over the last few years.

"We are in a sport which pays these kinds of figures and within this sphere it could be that we are worth this investment.

"In the case of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the most expensive player, he has shown that he's number one and that he's worth this money."

Meanwhile, Sevilla have agreed a deal with Olympiacos to sell unwanted midfielder Enzo Maresca.

The 29-year-old Italian has been with the Andalucian club for four years but struggled for starting opportunities during the last La Liga season.

The two clubs are believed to have settled on a fee in the region of £1.5million for the midfielder after claiming that "all parties are happy with the agreement".

Maresca won five trophies during two successful years under former coach Juande Ramos.

The former Fiorentina and West Bromwich Albion midfielder's CV boasts two UEFA Cup wins and one triumph in the Copa del Rey.

Diego Forlan's agent has dismissed reports claiming the Uruguay striker has been the subject of an approach from Barcelona.

Forlan is rumoured to be the Catalan club's preferred choice to replace Samuel Eto'o should the Cameroon star leave the Camp Nou.

But agent Daniel Bolotnicoff has denied that the Atletico Madrid and former Manchester United and Villarreal striker has already been in touch with Barca.

"Barcelona have at no time made contact with us," he said. "(President Joan) Laporta has made no movement for Forlan.

"It is not strange to me that Laporta says he likes Forlan as we have known that for a long time, but the reality is that there has been no offer and we are calm.

"In football you cannot predict what will happen, but neither myself nor Diego want to talk about something that has not happened. He is happy at Atletico."

Coach Manolo Jimenez is hoping Luis Fabiano stays at Sevilla, but has conceded that the AC Milan target is likely to be on his way this summer.

The Brazil striker is wanted by the Italian giants following his goalscoring exploits in the Confederations Cup and Jimenez has admitted his days with the Andalucian club may be numbered.

The striker has scored 73 goals during four seasons with Sevilla.

"Luis Fabiano is an important piece of our team," he said. "If he leaves, it will be because it was impossible for us to keep him.

"It is understandable that he is interested in going to Milan, but he is a Sevilla player.

"I have spoken with him and he knows that big clubs are interested in him, but Sevilla is also a big club. He is very calm and wants to make the right decision.

"If he goes to Milan he is not guaranteed to fit in, but he knows how valued he is here."
