Barcelona vice president 'convinced' the club will still be able to sign players this summer as they appeal Fifa ban

Barcelona vice president, Manel Arroyo, says that he is "convinced" the club will still be able to sign players this summer, as they work on their appeal against the Fifa-imposed transfer ban.

The La Liga giants were hit with a transfer ban until the summer of 2015 for breaching Fifa's rules on the transfer of players aged under 18, but Arroyo said in a press conference that they were working on their appeal with the Spanish Football Federation, and planned to have a "normal summer".

"We're working on an appeal that will give us an interim suspension of the transfer ban," he said." "We want to have a normal summer. We're convinced that we will be able to sign new players.

"It's a significant ban and our legal team is working so that we'll be able to sign new players this summer."

The transfer embargo will be suspended until the final decision is made, meaning the appeal should allow the already-agreed deals for the Borussia Monhengladbach goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stergen, and Dinamo Zagreb's Alen Halilovic to go through.
