Football: Nantes on run: European round-up

NANTES continued to buck the odds in France, overcoming Montpellier 6-0 at home. Japhet N'Doram and Nicolas Ouedec each scored twice in the biggest French first division win of the season. And a capacity 30,000 crowd brought extra cheer to the hard-up Atlantic coast club.

Nantes were threatened with relegation in the summer because of the state of their finances. Their monthly wage bill reportedly comes to less than that given to one Marseille player struggling in the reigning champions' reserves.

The Liberian international, George Weah, got both Paris St Germain's goals in their 2-0 win at Toulon. The rich Parisians remain one point behind Nantes.

Two goals by the New Zealand striker, Wynton Rufer, ended Bayern Munich's unbeaten record as Werder Bremen beat the German league leaders 3-1.

The Dutch league was ruined by storms, but PSV Eindhoven had time to beat Groningen 3-0 to extend their lead at the top to three points. Gary Sundgren scored four minutes from time on his 25th birthday as AIK Stockholm beat Malmo 3-2 to take the Swedish title, their first since 1937.
