Sri Lanka take charge against Australia

Sri Lanka took control of the third Test against Australia after a century stand between Tillakaratne Dilshan and Angelo Mathews on day three in Colombo yesterday. The pair added 121 after Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene had taken their third-wicket stand to 101. The hosts finished the day on 428 for six, in reply to Australia's first-innings 316, a lead of 112 runs.

Jayawardene reached his half-century from 117 balls with nine fours, and the hundred stand followed when Sangakkara clipped Mitchell Johnson into the leg side. But the pair added just one more before Jayawardene (left) over-reached in going for one cover-drive too many and edged to Brad Haddin to give Shane Watson his 50th Test wicket.

Sangakkara (79) became another victim for Haddin, this time off paceman Peter Siddle when he was undone by some extra bounce. Dilshan and Mathews (85no) then took control before the former was caught by Haddin, again, off Trent Copeland for an elegant 83.
