Referral system under scrutiny

Clive Lloyd, the former West Indies captain, will take his place as chairman of the ICC cricket committee today as they decide on a wide range of contentious issues.

The most controversial item at the two-day Lord's meeting may be whether to continue with the referral system permitting players to request a review of umpiring decisions. The committee will also consider day/night Test matches, bad light regulations, the over rates in Tests and the possibility of field restrictions.

Although Clare Connor, the former England women's captain, will attend as the committee's first female member, they are still likely to decide on evolution rather than revolution.
