Stuart Broad was unable to take the new ball for England after failing to take the field for the start of the Australia innings.

Broad received treatment after being hit high on the arm by James Pattinson during England's disappointing 215 all out.

Essex's Ben Foakes took the field in Broad's place, with Steven Finn opening the bowling alongside James Anderson.

Broad missed the four-day Ashes warm-up against Essex with a stiff shoulder, an injury sustained when he dived to make his ground during the Champions Trophy.
