JUST as Cecil Beaton's photographs could invest people with a special aura, so Andrew Lawson can make the lowliest speedwell look like a major star.

Lawson was a painter before he ever picked up a camera, and from Friday until 26 August an exhibition of his paintings and his photographs is at the Plough Arts Centre, Fore Street, Torrington, Devon. The centre is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10am-5pm.
