Somali elders sign peace accord

Elders of Somalia's rival clans signed a peace accord yesterday but it was far from certain whether the two main faction leaders would heed calls to lay down their arms, Reuter reports from Mogadishu. The accord, signed by elders of the clans of warlords Mohamed Farah Aideed and Ali Mahdi Mohamed, seeks to end 50 years of clan warfare.
