North Korea writes off defector

In an apparent further softening on the case of Hwang Jang Yop, a high-ranking defector holed up in the South Korean consulate in Peking, the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il, said in a radio broadcast that "cowards" who wished to leave should go ahead.
