UN appeal for wider German role
Berlin - Boutros Boutros- Ghali, the UN Secretary-General, called for German participation in any future UN rapid- deployment force that could be used to resolve conflicts throughout the world, writes Adrian Bridge.
In an interview in today's Die Zeit, Mr Boutros-Ghali said he was aware of constitutional restrictions on German military involvement in areas outside Nato, but he hoped to 'receive more support from Germany'.
Chancellor Kohl wants an amendment to the constitution which would free Germany to take part in all UN-backed operations.
