The newly-elected neo-Fascists came swaggering into the European Parliament yesterday, the institution they have vowed to abolish, on their first day as MEPs.

The BNP leader, Nick Griffin, wasted little time getting down to business. "If and when the free nations of Europe get their destinies back, perhaps this building could be turned into a monument to the follies of imperialism. We must get rid of this ridiculously wasteful circus, though I fear it would prove too much for French pride," he said.

Mr Griffin said he had used his first day in Strasbourg to hold talks with neo-Fascist colleagues from Hungary and France on "common threats" such as immigration.
