British teacher falls to death in front of pupils on school trip to Austria in freak accident

A British teacher tripped and fell to his death in front of pupils in a freak accident during a school trip to Austria, it has emerged.

Jonathan Taylor, an IT teacher from Christ the King Catholic voluntary college in Arnold, Nottinghamshire, is reported to have fallen and hit his head on a log while walking with students and colleagues.

Chair of the governors at the school, David Wilson, confirmed that Mr Taylor, who had worked at the school for a year and had been escorting a group of 14 and 15-year-olds when the incident occurred, died on Saturday.

He is married and his wife is believed to be expecting their first child.

A pupil wrote on Twitter: ‘it's so horrible. I can't believe it…. I cried when I heard about his pregnant wife’.

Another added: ‘thinking of Mr Taylor's family and everyone on the ski trip, such a lovely man xx rest in peace x’.

Around 40 pupils, aged 14 to 15, were on the trip and are expected to return to Nottinghamshire on Monday.

A Foreign Office spokesman confirmed a British national had died in Austria and that "school children were being looked after".
