Sudan's military-controlled government said that 100,000 people routed from their homes by civil war were gathered around a southern provincial capital without food, AP reports from Khartoum. Nile River barges are being prepared to help them, Abdalla Deng Nihal, the new Minister for Peace and Rehabilitation, said. Mr Nihal, a southern Muslim, called the displaced people 'returnees from the rebel ranks' seeking shelter around Malakal, 430 miles south of Khartoum.
