Damages for boat people
A court ordered Hong Kong to pay 200,000 Hong Kong dollars ( pounds 17,300)in damages to seven Vietnamese boat people illegally detained after they landed in 1989, Reuter reports from Hong Kong. The seven were among a group of 111 who, like tens of thousands of others, insisted they were heading for Japan rather than the colony's camps for Vietnamese.
