Millions of Hindus across India and Bangladesh celebrated Diwali or the "festival of lights" this week. The annual festival marks the triumph of good over evil, as well as the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after vanquishing the demon king Ravana.

Devotees attend a prayer (pictured) with lights before breaking a religious fast at Swamibagh in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Sadly, the festival led to at least seven people being killed and several others being injured by an explosion at an illegal fireworks factory in northern India.

Police official Arun Kumar said the explosion happened in Auriya, a small town in India's Uttar Pradesh state. At the time, employees were working overtime packing the last batches of fireworks before the festival.
