Architects sorry for '9/11' design

A Dutch architectural company has apologised for a design of two Seoul skyscrapers that some people said resembled New York's World Trade Centre exploding during the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The firm, MVRDV, said on its website yesterday that it had not intended to create an image evoking the 2001 attacks. The firm "sincerely" apologised to anyone whose feelings it had hurt.

The design unveiled in Seoul last week was supposed to show a cloud covering the centre of the buildings. The statement did not say whether MVRDV would retain the design. Construction is due to start in 2013.
