Connecticut police provide update on young woman's body found in suitcase by roadside

The body of a young woman has been found stuffed inside a suitcase alongside a road in Connecticut, and authorities say victim was bound at the hands and feet.

The body was found at 8.15am on Tuesday and about 10 to 15 feet away from Glenville Road in Greenwich.

"The victim was found bound at the hands and the feet, and the victim was found in a suitcase," Greenwich police Captain Robert Berry told an ABC affiliate.

The body is believed to belong to a woman between the ages of 18- and 30-years-old.

The police are actively investigating the case as a homicide. The medical examiner is working to determine the victim’s identity and cause of death.

"We have received some leads, on some, I would say, possible identifications of the victim," Mr Berry added. "But at this time, nothing is confirmed. So I have no information to release identifying the victim. We are following up on leads."

Investigators do not think the woman was killed on Glenville Road, but they are uncertain of where the killing happened.

News of a dead body discovered in the scenic Greenwich has sparked concerns among its mostly affluent residents.

"It was very upsetting when we originally heard about it," Courtney King, a resident, said.

The body was found in a road locals often use for walking and running.

"I'm still trying to take this in, because I just heard about it a few minutes ago," Joe Allegro, who lives nearby Glenville Road, said. "I've got kids here. I didn't know if it is an adult or a child."
