The ever-startlingly attired rapper Nicki Minaj has ruffled liberal feathers in the US by suggesting – in the lyric to her new track, a collaboration with Lil Wayne for his latest mixtape, Dedication 4 – that she intends to vote for Mitt Romney. "I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney/You lazy bitches are fucking up the economy," Ms Minaj opines, over a backing track produced by sometime Democrat activist Kanye West.

As it turns out, however, Ms Minaj will not be voting for the Republican presidential nominee in November, after all. According to the Manhattan-based Gawker media blog, she is not actually registered to vote in either of her home states of New York and California.

Given she was born in Trinidad and Tobago, the relevant post goes on, Minaj may not even be a US citizen. Also, "Romney" doesn't really rhyme with "economy", now does it?
