The software tycoon John McAfee's return to the US marks the latest chapter in a strange, month-long odyssey to escape police questioning about a killing in Belize.

Mr McAfee, 67, who was born in England, was in a hotel in Miami today after arriving on a flight from Guatemala, which deported him after he entered illegally from Belize. Police there want to question him in connection with the death of a US expatriate who lived near him on an island. Mr McAfee was in hiding for weeks after police said he was a person of interest in the murder. He has denied any role in the killing.

On his website, Mr McAfee said that at Miami airport he was escorted by federal agents to a taxi stand, where he caught a cab to a hotel. "I have no phone, no money, no contact information," the post said. An FBI spokesman in Miami said the agency was not involved with Mr McAfee's return to the US.
