Joey 'Jaws' Chestnut beats own hot dog eating world record
Show all 2A US man has beaten his own world record for hot dog eating by devouring 69 of them in just 10 minutes.
Joey "Jaws" Chestnut, who also claimed his seventh consecutive hot dog eating title with his record-breaking performance, beat his previous score of 68 'dogs and buns' to win the annual Famous Nathan's Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest.
Second place went to Matt Stonie who ate 51 hot dogs at the contest held on New York's Coney Island.
In the women's competition, Sonya Thomas kept her title with nearly 37 sausages. Known as 'The Black Widow' of competitive world eating, Thomas is not only a hot dog champions, she also has a title for eating 564 oysters in eight minutes.
The formidable Mr Chestnut has previously chowed down 72 ounces of steak in eight minutes and gobbled up 47 grilled sandwiches in 10 minutes in previous eating challenges.
This year marks the 98th anniversary of the event which attracts thousands of the people, with around 30,000 expected to attend today.
Since 2008 hot dogs have been donated to local food banks and this year organisers plan to give 100,000 to food banks in New York City.
