Harris County Sheriff has put up the 'most politically incorrect' welcome sign outside his apartment

A US sheriff has unveiled a symbolic protest against modern political correctness in the form of a welcome sign - that urges visitors to leave if they are offended by the beliefs held by people in the county.

The new sign in Harris County, Georgia, which was put up on Tuesday reads:

“WARNING: Harris County is politically incorrect. We say: Merry Christmas, God Bless America and In Our God We Trust. We salute our troops and our flag. If that offends you… LEAVE!”

The sign was devised by Harris County Sheriff Mike Jolley, who believed it would “stir people’s belief and patriotism”.

Sheriff Jolley told the Ledger Enquirer he put the sign up outside his apartment and said he was tired of the silent majority being “more silent”.

“I spent 20 years in the army to give everyone the right not to agree with it, and voice their opinion if they’re not and that’s fine," he said.

“But after being the Sheriff of Harris County for 23 years, I believe that the vast majority of my citizens here in Harris County agree with what’s on that sign.

“It’s time for the silent majority to stand up for our beliefs and not be ashamed."

Some social media users praised the sheriff for the sign.

Others have emailed him and sent checks to help cover the cost of the sign, which was $553 (£366), and others have told him they want a similar sign on their property.

“I’m humbled by all the support. Surprised and humbled by it. Maybe the silent majority isn’t going to be silent anymore”, the sheriff said.
