The father of a morbidly obese man says his son's life is at risk after he was discharged from a hospital for ordering pizza to his room.

Steven Veillette said his son, Steven Assanti, who weighs 57-stone, needs professional care in order to survive.

Mr Veillette told NBC 10 News: "If he comes home and I do get him up the stairs somehow, someway he's going to go right back to his eating habits."

Mr Assanti said his violation of the rules was beyond his control Facebook (Facebook)

Mr Assanti was reportedly being treated for food addiction on an 80 day-programme at a hospital in Rhode Island, New England.

He told NBC 10 News he hoped the programme would help him reduce his weight to 39 stone, the minimum weight required for gastric bypass surgery.

However, the 33-year-old was evicted from the hospital last week after ordering pizza to his room, which he was allegedly told violated the conditions of his stay.

Since the incident, Mr Assanti said in a video uploaded to Facebook his violation of the rules was beyond his control.

He said: “I don’t feel like I broke the rules. I was on a care plan and you could’ve implemented on that care plan that I had an addiction to ordering out food.

“You guys knew that from the get-go the moment I got admitted there.”

The media and the press all around the world internationally and world is hating on me right now this is my reply to the fucking retards oh and one more thing thanks for comparing me to Chris Farley I take that as a compliment

Assanti has also blamed the hospital staff for allowing the pizza delivery man to enter the hospital.

“Rhode Island hospital completely sickens me,” he said. “You broke the rules, not me.”

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed Assanti had been discharged but declined to provide further details due to confidentiality laws, the Associated Press reported.

After being kicked out of the Rhode Island Hospital, Mr Assanti was allowed to stay temporarily at Kent County Hospital while his social worker searched for a permanent arrangement, according to USA Today.
