US baseball player surprises parents by paying off family debt for Christmas in touching video

He was drafted 18th overall this year to the Kansas City Royals

A first-round American baseball draft pick has surprised his parents with a big Christmas gift - using the money from his new job to pay off all of their debt.

Brady Singer, a 22-year-old player with the Kansas City Royals, posted a video on Tuesday of his parents as they read a note from him announcing the gift, and the video has been watched more than 3.4 million times since then.

"Today is very special to my heart. To give back to the two people who have given up everything to support my brother and I”, the pitcher wrote on Twitter. “I can't thank them enough. Love you Mom and Dad”.

The video shows his mother and father seated in their home as they read a card from their son.

“Thank you for everything you've done to help me reach my dreams”, the mother reads. “There's absolutely no way I could have done all this by myself. Both of you constantly took off of work and spent every dime you made just to put a smile on my face. My smile and appreciation for both of you has never stopped and it never will”.

She continues: “I will always remember travelling around Florida for baseball and trying to cheaply eat to save money, and I never could because you always wanted me to have the best stuff so that I could pursue my dream. The money you all spent on travelling, gear, food and all those Gatorades I drank is much more than i could ever give you”.

But, as she reads on, the mother gets a shocked look on her face and begins to tear up.

She continues, emotionally: “But there is something i want to give to you. I am paying off the loan to the bank. Also I paid off all your debt as well. Now instead of trying to save money every weekend to replace the savings account you drained while travelling to see me play baseball, you can spend it on yourselves because you deserve the very best”.

Singer was picked 18th overall in the 2018 draft, and received a $4.25m signing bonus to go play for the Royals.

In the video, both parents tear up as they finish the letter.

“I want you both to know how much I appreciate you and how none of this would be possible without you”, the mother read from the note.

“Your giving hearts helped shaped my tiny dream into a reality and I love you both more than you could ever imagine and will never forget what you have done. Now let's go celebrate and Merry Christmas. Love always, Brady”, the letter concludes.
