An abandoned and seriously ill dog has undergone an incredible recovery after being rescued by an animal charity.
Named by her rescuers as Alice, the canine was found by Animal Aid Unlimited suffering from a severe case of “advanced mange crusting” that meant her skin was covered in stone-like scabs. She had been left for dead in the back of an abandoned tuk tuk in India.

The charity posted a video following Alice’s recovery, which shows her as they first found her – emaciated and weak with flies swarming around her.
The footage shows a member of the team coaxing her with biscuits before wrapping her in a blanket and placing her in a van to be brought to Animal Aid’s shelter.
Alice was treated for six weeks with medicated baths and ointments to help her skin recover - and is seen at the end of the video covered in newly-grown fur and looking much healthier.
Animal Aid Unlimited operates from Udaipur in the northern India state of Rajasthan. They rescue sick or wounded animals referred to them, from dogs to cats to cows.
“With the involvement of thousands of Udaipur residents who have become aware of street animal’s needs, we have rescued more than 45,000 injured or ill dogs, cows, donkeys, birds and cats to date,” the charity says on its website.
India’s cities and towns are home to an estimated 30 million stray dogs, according to the BBC. There are around 18 animal welfare charities around the country trying to combat the problem of abandoned animals.
