The body of a small boy has been found in the North Sea by lifeboat men searching for missing five-year-old Jake Parker.

The body was spotted by the crew of a private yacht about 500 yards off Brancaster beach shortly before 6pm on Wednesday night.

The body has not yet been identified but police have informed Jake's parents of the discovery.

Jake vanished while playing on a beach at Brancaster, Norfolk, on Sunday.

He was on a day trip to Norfolk with his parents, Kevin and Debbie, from Wellingborough, Northants, their nine-year-old daughter Lauren and another couple when he vanished.

Police said he was paddling in the sea while being watched by an aunt and disappeared in the "blink of an eye".

Extensive searches by police, lifeboats and helicopters over the past three days failed to find any trace of the youngster.

The beaches off the North Norfolk Coast are notoriously dangerous with coastal shelving creating deep gullies and powerful currents.
