Sentence upheld
A man who was jailed last year for killing his father with a shotgun lost an appeal against his four-year sentence for manslaughter. Lawyers for Clifford Newton, 46, of Irby on Humber, near Grimsby, who said that he had endured years of bullying, intimidation and violence culminating in a death threat from his father, had urged the Court of Appeal to reduce the jail term.
