The conference called for:

All women to have equal access to abortion in the NHS within 14 days of asking.

A single ministry for the arts and communications under a Cabinet minister.

Abolition of the Official Secrets Act and its replacement with a Freedom of Information Act.

Immediate abolition of museum and gallery charges for school parties and abolition of all charges in the longer term.

Investment to reduce unemployment and improve education, training and transport.

An independent European central bank, sterling's entry into the ERM narrow band as soon as practicable and a single currency.

A policy working group to consider genetic engineering.

Today, the conference will be addressed by Charles Kennedy, the party's president. It will also debate capital punishment, Cyprus, homelessness, the UN Charter, prostitution, the European fighter aircraft project and the Freedom Party of Austria.
