National express passengers to Birmingham endured "the journey from hell"

Passengers on a National Express bus were forced to endure “the journey from hell”, during which a couple are said to have had sex and a group of people allegedly shouted abuse in front of families, causing children to weep.

A mother travelling with her children from Blackpool to Birmingham on the bus told Birmingham Live her holiday had been ruined by the three-hour journey.

She detailed the tawdry scenes and said the spectacle she witnessed would “even shock Jeremy Kyle”.

She said: “There were scumbags with open cans of beer let on board, having sex, anti social abusive behaviour. Young children on board, it was an absolute disgrace.

"There was a young couple sitting near the front, the lady was performing a sex act under the blanket, the other large gang of people in 30s-40s who were allowed on board with beer cans in hand, [and] were loud, aggressive, swearing, shouting.”

One of her children reportedly broke down in tears and said the debauchery had “spoilt her holiday”, prompting the woman to complain.

National Express said it had banned the passengers from onwards travel on its services from Birmingham once the bus reached its final destination.

In a statement, the coach firm said: “An alleged incident of anti-social behaviour on the 387 service travelling from Blackpool to Birmingham on Sunday 8 September was reported to both the driver and coach station staff on its arrival in Birmingham.

“National Express staff spoke with the passengers involved regarding the allegation and advised they would be refused any onward travel.

“Any incidents of anti-social behaviour are not acceptable and are dealt with accordingly. We would like to thank the fellow passengers for bringing this to our attention.”

In March this year a couple, believed to be strangers and who were on a 10-hour journey from Manchester to Exeter on a National Express, allegedly took off their clothes during the journey and had sex.

In that case, the bus driver pulled over on the M5 and phoned the police.

The pair were arrested but later released with no charge after “inconclusive” CCTV evidence.
