Heavy snow is expected to fall over parts of Greater Manchester this weekend.

Areas in higher land, such as Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport and Tameside have all been told to expect up to 10cm of snow.

Manchester city centre, Salford, Trafford and Wigan, however, have no snow forecasted, but have been told to expect up to 40mm of rain.

A yellow alert has been issued for the area by the Met Office, with the warning in place until 11:45pm on 12 December.

The warning comes just after Storm Desmond tore through parts of Britain, breaking records for rainfall and displacing hundreds of families.

Rainfall during Desmond reached a new high of 340mm over 24 hours in the Lake District.
