Man dies after car plunges into River Don from motorway
Specialist officers are investigating
A man has died after a car plunged into a river from a motorway, police have said.
The man's body was found as the vehicle was removed from the River Don, just off the A1M, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire Police said.
The northbound carriageway is expected to remain closed between junctions 36 and 37 until Monday afternoon.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
A police spokesman said: "Following reports this morning that a car had entered the River Don,off the A1 in Doncaster, a man's body has been found as the vehicle has now been recovered from the water.
"While formal identification of the body has not yet taken place, the family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers."
Emergency services attended the scene at around 6.30am on Monday.
Officers remain at the scene and regional underwater search teams are helping with the operation.
