Inquest hears of teenager's mephedrone tragedy

The teenage daughter of a former Premiership footballer hanged herself during a come-down from mephedrone, an inquest into her death heard today.

Sibylle Sibierski, 18, whose French-born father Antoine played for Manchester City and Newcastle United, had also been drinking champagne and was a regular user of both cannabis and the recently banned party drug.

Stockport Coroners Court was told that the student from Altrincham, Cheshire, was arrested after a row with her boyfriend the night before she died and was described as being in a “paranoid” state.

Joanne Kearsley, Deputy Coroner for South Manchester, recording a narrative verdict following the two-hour hearing, said there was insufficient evidence to suggest the teenager intended to take her own life.

"I suspect this may have been an impulsive act, perhaps driven by her low mood,” she said.

Earlier this month a coroner in North Yorkshire found that the drug was likely to have contributed to the death of Lois Waters, 24, who also had an undetected heart condition.

The Labour government made the synthetic substance a class B drug in April in one of its final acts in power.
