Salary: Basic rate of dollars 20,000 ( pounds 13,200) a year, plus benefits package. Until June no member of staff could earn more than seven times this basic amount. But now that Ben has stepped down as the dollars 136,000-a- year chief executive, the new boss - recruited from outside the Vermont-based company - will be paid more. The company, which is about to launch a big sales push in Britain, also employs a taster known as the 'Primal Ice-Cream Therapist'.

Hours: 40 per week.

Perks: As much ice-cream as you can eat while working, plus three pints to take home every night (any flavour). Benefits includes healthcare, insurance and retirement payments, maternity, paternity and adoption leave, educational training, employee counselling and free health club membership. A stock- purchase plan is available for employees who can't get enough of Ben and Jerry's, and financial advice for those investing elsewhere. The company may also give down payments on housing.
