Help the Hungry: Emma Watson among celebrities rallying behind Independent campaign to feed the vulnerable during coronavirus

Nigella Lawson has been helping solve people’s isolation dinner dilemmas with her handy recipes online

Celebrities including Rita Ora, Robbie Williams and Emma Watson have shown their support for The Independent‘s Help The Hungry campaign to ensure the poor, children, the NHS and vulnerable do not go hungry during the coronavirus crisis.

With many struggling to get by during the lockdown, The Independent is supporting the work of The Felix Project charity in London, in conjunction with our sister title the Evening Standard, raising more than £1m already. Donations have come from readers and organisations including Citi bank and Lush cosmetics founders Mark and Mo Constantine.

Comedian Rob Brydon and 8 Out of 10 Cats host Jimmy Carr have shared the appeal with their millions of followers, while chef Nigella Lawson directed her followers to the campaign thread on Twitter, saying: “I exhort you to read this thread.”

The cooking show host has been helping solve people’s isolation dinner dilemmas with her handy recipes online.

She was joined by Peep Show actor and comedian David Mitchell who also took to Twitter to show his support.

“Here’s a way for Londoners to help each other during the current crisis,” said the comedian in a Twitter post.

Pop star Rita Ora shared Independent shareholder Evgeny Lebedev’s message about the appeal with heart emojis to show her support.

Among the other celebs showing their support are Stephen Fry, Eddie Izzard, David Williams and Emma Watson.

The Independent’s Help The Hungry campaign is supporting the work of our key partner The Felix Project – which has teamed with two other large organisations in London to forge the London Food Alliance.

The London Food Alliance is now co-ordinating with all 32 London boroughs to make sure the new, council-run community hubs are well-stocked with supplies, and also providing meals for NHS staff.
