Video footage shows latest incident outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire

Police are investigating a video of a ‘near-miss’ involving a car driving on the wrong side of the road outside the RAF base where Harry Dunn was killed.

The dashcam footage posted on Youtube allegedly shows a vehicle pulling out of RAF Croughton on to the right-hand lane on Thursday night.

Moments later the car swerves suddenly back on to the correct side as the driver appears to realise their mistake.

It comes six months after Mr Dunn’s death in a collision with a car allegedly driven on the wrong side of the road by Anne Sacoolas, the wife of a US intelligence officer.

Ms Sacoolas, who had reportedly served in the CIA, left the UK under diplomatic immunity. She has refused to return to face trial on a charge of causing death by dangerous driving.

After the latest footage was posted online on Friday under the title “Near miss at Harry Dunn crash site”, Northamptonshire Police issued a statement saying a “a full investigation is being carried out and witnesses are sought”.

The force also revealed that its chief constable, Nick Adderley, had met with US Air Force colonel Bridget McNamara at RAF Croughton to discuss new measures to prevent any future incidents.

According to the statement, UK driving standards are in force on the base and residents are assisted with adjusting from US standards.

Mr Adderley said: ”It was clear from the meeting that the base already had a significant number of measures in place in ensuring driver safety.

“This was encouraging to see and I look forward to working closely with Colonel McNamara and her colleagues at RAF Croughton to continue to build on this good work.”

Colonel McNamara added: “Our meeting reinforced the long-standing partnerships US bases in the UK are fortunate to have with their surrounding and supporting Constabularies. I look forward to helping continue these relationships.”

US secretary of state Mike Pompeo rejected the UK’s extradition request for Anne Sacoolas last month, describing it as “highly inappropriate”.

The family of 19-year-old Harry Dunn has said they will continue to fight for justice.
